Artist of the Week || Oly
Singer-songwriter and co-founder of Public Works Records, Oly - a first generation Mexican American, born in Los Angeles and based in Miami, Florida - gives us a melancholic, honest and vulnerable expression of herself in her latest album Shy Passion.
Recorded throughout 2019 in home studios, Shy Passion holds nothing back. It is a fusion of Oly's many influences. From 80s grooves, to classic 50s girl groups, this record draws from Oly's Latin roots via percussive elements while injecting pop textures. Producers, Rick Moon and Corey Perez, add lush instrumentation and a celestial sheen that sounds both nostalgic and modern.
Traditionally a lo-fi experimental artist, Oly has taken to a new style of personal songwriting on this album, inspired, in part, by country music influences. The title of her new EP, Shy Passion, describes the songs candidly.
